Health House was established in 2013 as the first dedicated rowing studio mixing rowing and strength training for a healthier community. The newest location amplifies that notion with an immersive experience catering to a bespoke lifestyle. Every aspect of the design from entry to personal interaction, crossing over the threshold from a social space into the transformative studio, to an innovative rowing experience engaging users in a dynamic video wall, to replenishing with natural supplements from t. Loft contributes to a holistic experience.
Designing in an existing shell, the challenge becomes using the provided space to appropriately and intelligently layout the design as well as execute the overall functionality. Part of the uniqueness of this design is the refined material palette which breaks the traditional fitness studio typology and also becomes an intuitive way to guide people through the space without the need for signage or demarcation. When using a stripped down yet refined + curated material palette, we carefully selected each material to be appropriate for the function of the spaces and embody/enhance the Health House brand. With this refined material palette and design elements, the challenge and opportunity was to create a balance of masculinity & femininity and appeal to multiple generations, truly creating a space tailored to the next generation of fitness.
